Creating a New Originality Review
Creating a new Originality Review is really simple! There are only two required fields, so set up can be done in less than a minute. Follow the steps below to see how you can go about doing that
Step-by-Step Instructions for creating a New Originality Review
- Go to Writing Assignments from the link on the community home page or the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the screen
- Click “Manage Assignments” and then “+ Add Assignment”
- Add an Assignment Title and Max Points
- Open up the optional fields (see details below), if desired, and configure the settings.
- Click "Publish Assignment"
Optional Fields
Writing Style (optional)
Certain writing styles are associated with specific writing feedback, so by associating a writing style with an assignment, students can benefit from additional feedback.
Note: The field is optional. If you don't select a particular Writing Style, it will default to "Other Writing."
Choose Communities (optional)
By default, the course where you clicked to “Add a new assignment” will already be populated to assign the Originality Review to!
But, you are able to assign the same Originality Review assignment to multiple Packback courses at the same, if you choose. Select at least one in the Choose a Course drop down menu and then click Assign to a course. Repeat this step for each course.
Set Assignment Dates (optional)
Here is where you’ll set when you’d like your Originality Review assignment to go live and choose a deadline for it.
- Select Immediate if you’d like to publish your assignment after setup completion. But if you’d like to schedule a day for it to go live, click On a specific date and time. You’ll be prompted to enter the day, the time, and the appropriate time zone.
- Under Choose a deadline, choose the day, time, and time zone by which you’d like your students to complete their Originality Review assignment. Originality Review assignment deadlines are completely independent of any deadlines you’ve already configured for Packback Questions.
Enabling Student Access to Originality Fingerprints and AI Risk Reports
When creating a new Writing Assignment, you will see a setting in the Originality Fingerprint section to allow students to see their Originality Fingerprint while they are drafting their assignment. Leave this box checked to encourage students to cite properly, use their own voice, and maintain academic integrity.
If the box is unchecked, students will not be able to see their Originality Fingerprint until after their assignment has been graded.
Additionally, there will be a separate checkbox to enable the AI risk report in the Originality Fingerprint. This will show you and your students the likelihood that the assignment contains AI-generated text.
Once you’ve completed all sections for setting up your Deep Dives assignment, click Publish Assignment.
Editing or Deleting an Originality Review
To edit an assignment, navigate to the “Manage Assignments” page, select the assignment, make their edits, and then click the "Update Assignment" button.
To delete an assignment, navigate to the “Manage Assignments” page, select the assignment, and then click the "Delete Assignment" button.
You can edit an assignment after there are submissions and evaluations, but you should be very careful about doing so.
