When you grade a Team Assignment, you give one grade for the team's submission. That grade is automatically applied to every team member. However, you can easily override individual grades on the same page if you need to make adjustments for specific students.

Grades sync to your LMS gradebook the same way standard Packback Writing assignments do.

How to grade a Team Assignment

1. In the left sidebar, click the Writing Assignments menu

2. Click on the assignment you want to grade

3. Click the Submissions tab

4. Select a team's submission from the submissions list

5. Review the submission content on the left side of the screen

6. In the right panel:

   a. Expand Student Comments to read any private notes each student left for you

   b. Review the Originality Fingerprint - Uniqueness score and AI Risk indicator for the team’s submission

   c. Review the *Feedback Summary - Word Count & Depth, Style, and Clarity scores for the team’s submission

   d. Enter the team's score under Overall Score

7. Optionally expand Modify Individual Scores to adjust any student's grade individually

Note: The team grade is pre-populated for each student. To override a student's grade, simply update their individual score before submitting.

8. Add notes in the Instructor Feedback field if desired

9. Add inline comments if desired

10. Set Evaluation Visibility - choose whether to hide or release the evaluation to students

11. Click Submit

Coming in the future: Once collaborative editing is available in Deep Dives, you'll be able to see each student's individual contributions directly within Packback, making participation easier to assess without relying solely on self-reported comments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I give different grades to different team members?

Yes. Expand the Modify Individual Scores section in the grading panel and update each student's score before clicking Submit.

Will grade overrides sync to the LMS?

Yes. Individual overrides sync to the LMS gradebook the same way the shared team grade does.

Can students see each other's private comments to me?

No. Private comments are visible only to you. Team members cannot see what their peers wrote.
