How can my students improve their score?

In general, a great way to improve the quality of posts is to evaluate where their posts sit in Bloom's Taxonomy. Using this framework is a great opportunity to challenge themselves and their classmates by asking bigger questions or answering questions in a more in-depth way!

Blooms Taxonomy that consists of 6 levels: 1. Remembering, 2. Understanding, 3. Applying, 4. Analyzing, 5. Evaluating, 6. Creating, with Packback focusing on 3, 4, 5

When composing questions, consider these steps to increase their score:

  • Deep Questions: Avoid questions that can easily be searched in Google! Ask classmates to explore a learned concept in a new and thoughtful way. If your question requires factual or data-supported answers, consider asking classmates to expand on their responses. Embrace the "why" of what is already known and see what comes of the discussion!
  • Question Body: Make use of this feature to add some clarifying points or sources to build out the headline question. This will help make the prompt more rich and thought provoking.

When composing answers, they can consider these steps to increase their score:

  • Depth: Be thoughtful in your response; be sure the answers at the higher levels of Bloom’s and expanding their thinking beyond just a few sentences.  We also reward the first answer posted to a question with bonus points as it provides additional content depth to the Packback community.
  • Credibility: cite a high quality source; unsupported opinions don’t make for good answers. Including the sources also provides good follow up reading for the community. Just make sure to not over-quote as responses run afoul of our plagiarism policy will be removed.
  • Presentation: use our Text Editor to format the answers & insert interesting images / videos to elevate the answer quality. Creating an Answer Summary is also a great way to highlight the key conclusions of the answer to readers.
