Peer Review: Reviewing Student Activity and Posting Grades

Once your Peer Review assignment is live, you can track class-wide progress, view individual student activity, make manual grade adjustments, and control exactly when grades are released.

Viewing Full Class Activity via the Submissions Tab

To see a high-level overview of activity for every student in your class, navigate to the Peer Review assignment page and click the Submissions tab.

Each row in the table displays the following information:

  • Student Name & Section
  • Deep Dive Status: Shows whether the student has submitted their work to the associated Deep Dive assignment.
  • Peer Review Progress:
    • Not Started: The student has not started reviewing peer work.
    • In Progress: The student has started, but has not yet completed the required number of reviews.
    • Completed: The student has submitted the required number of reviews.
  • Reviews Written: The number of peer reviews the student has submitted.
  • Reviews Received: The number of peer reviews the student's own submission has received.
  • Total Grade, Grade Visibility Status, and Sync Status (if Gradebook Sync is enabled).

What is Visibility Status? Visibility status reflects whether a grade has been released to the student. To give you time to review activity, all assignment grades and completion scores are hidden by default until you choose to post them.

Viewing Individual Student Activity

If you want to dive deeper into a specific student's work, navigate to the Submissions tab, find their row, and click ActionsView Assignment Activity.

From this dashboard, you will see:

  • An overview of the student's overall progress on the assignment.
  • A Peer Reviews Written by table, showing each peer review the student has completed or has yet to finish.
  • A Deep Dive Submission table, showing their own submission alongside the peer feedback they have received.

Within the Peer Reviews Written by table, you can see exactly how many comments the student made on their peer’s submission and how many review tasks they completed. To view the individual peer reviews completed by that student, simply click on the peer review name or its corresponding completion score.

Modifying Completion Scores and Leaving Comments

When you access a published peer review, you can easily view details, adjust completion scores, and provide direct feedback to the reviewer.

What You’ll See on a Published Peer Review

When you open a published peer review, the interface is split into two main areas:

  • The Sidebar: Displays the peer reviewer's name, their current completion score, their in-line comments, and their specific review task responses.
  • The Main Screen: Displays the reviewed Deep Dive submission, clearly labeled with the original author's name.

How to Edit Scores and Leave Comments

If you need to adjust a completion score or leave feedback for the Peer Reviewer:

  1. Click the edit icon located right next to the completion score.
  2. In the pop-up window that appears, make your score adjustments and type your comments for the Peer Reviewer.

Important Considerations:

Viewer Restrictions & Timeline: Both the adjusted score and your feedback are completely confidential and shared only with the reviewer once final assignment grades are officially posted.

Automatic Recalculation: Any changes you make to the Completion Points will automatically recalculate the student’s overall assignment grade, ensuring their final score stays accurate without any manual math on your end.

Posting Grades

When you are ready to release grades to your students, follow these steps:

  1. From the Submissions tab, click Post Grades.
  2. LMS Sync (Optional): If Gradebook Sync is enabled, you will see an option to create a grading column in your Learning Management System (LMS).
  3. Adjust Your Filters: Choose how you want to release the grades using two main filters:
    • By Section vs. Full Class: Release grades only to selected sections, or to the entire class at once.
    • Completed Only vs. All Students: Release grades only to students who have finished the assignment, or to all students regardless of their completion status.
  4. Click Post Grades to confirm.

Once posted, the visibility status for all students who fit your selected filters will update to Posted.

Dynamic Calculations: Grades continue to calculate automatically even after they are posted. If you adjust a completion score on a peer review, or if a student submits a new peer review (provided the assignment is still accepting submissions), the student’s overall assignment grade will automatically update in real time.
