Your instructor has assigned a Peer Review, and you're not totally sure what that means? Here's what to expect.
How it fits with your Deep Dive
Peer Review is the next stage after you have submitted to a Deep Dive assignment. Instead of your instructor being the only one to read and respond to your writing, one or more classmates will read it and give you feedback too. You'll need to submit your own Deep Dive before you can start reviewing anyone else's.
How you're matched to a submission
When you click Start New Peer Review, Packback automatically matches you with a classmate's submission. You don't choose who you review, and you won't know who you're reviewing until you're matched. Your instructor may set up the assignment so that you only review submissions from students within your community section.
What you'll do for each review
For each review, you'll read your classmate's submission, answer the required review tasks (short-answer prompts your instructor sets up), and can leave inline comments directly on their writing, similar to how your instructor comments on your own Deep Dive. Your instructor sets how many reviews you're required to complete for the assignment.

How your grade works
Your Peer Review grade is based on completing your required reviews and their tasks, not on the quality of your original Deep Dive submission. For the full breakdown of how points are calculated, see Understanding Your Peer Review Grade.

How do I write a great Peer Review?
Focus on being specific: point to exact passages, explain what's working and what isn't, and give your classmate something they can actually act on. For more guidance, check out [Tips for Writing a Great Peer Review].
What if I haven't submitted my own Deep Dive yet?
You'll need to submit to the Deep Dive first. If the Deep Dive assignment is no longer accepting new submissions, contact your instructor directly. If you try to start a Peer Review before doing so, Packback will prompt you to complete your own submission before you can begin reviewing others.
Why can't I edit my Deep Dive submission anymore?
Once a classmate starts reviewing your submission, Packback locks it, the same way your submission locks once your instructor starts grading it. You can still edit your work up until a review begins.
What if there's no one to match me with yet?
If not enough classmates have submitted their Deep Dive, you may see a message letting you know no matches are available yet. Check back later; once more submissions come in, you'll be matched automatically.
Is my Peer Review anonymous?
No. Your name is visible on any review you write, and the name of the classmate whose work you're reviewing is visible to you too. Peer Review isn't an anonymous process in Packback.
Can I edit a review after I submit it?
No. Once you submit a Peer Review, it becomes read-only. Your peer will be notified and can read your feedback right away.
