Wondering why your Peer Review grade looks different from a Deep Dive grade? That's because you're being graded on your reviewing, not your original writing. Here's how it works.
How your grade is calculated
Your Peer Review grade comes down to one simple idea: it's the completion points you earn across all of your required reviews, added together.
Each review is worth a set number of points, split evenly across its required tasks, the short answer prompts to which you respond as you review. You earn each task's share of the points based on how you respond to the prompt.
Once you complete a review, your task points are added up to calculate that review's completion score, rounded to the nearest whole number when necessary. Complete all of your required reviews, and those completion scores add up to your grade for the assignment. If you fail to complete all your reviews, you will only get points for the reviews you have submitted.
Give each task a real answer
Some instructors set a minimum response length to make sure you're giving substantial feedback. When this minimum is enabled, you will be notified via the “How to complete this review” pop-up that appears when you start the review. For each short answer prompt:
- Answers of 150 characters or more (roughly two sentences) earn full credit for that task.
- Shorter answers earn half credit.
- Blank tasks earn no credit.
Regardless of whether this setting is enabled or not, you will see a character counter below each of your prompt responses. When completing a task, the safest move is to always give each prompt a thoughtful, specific answer. It's better for your grade, and it's more useful feedback for the peer you're reviewing. Why your grade might take a little while to show up
Peer Review grades default to hidden until your instructor posts them. That's normal; it just means your instructor has room to review activity or adjust an individual score before releasing grades to the class. If your grade hasn't shown up yet, it's likely still on its way.
Once posted, your grade will appear on the assignment as visible on the community homepage or under writing assignments. It will also appear within the assignment under the action button and within the “Complete Your Peer Reviews” table.
