This guide is for LMS administrators who would like to enable Packback Deep Linking. Once set up, instructors can easily add direct links to Packback assignments in their LMS courses. This makes it simpler for both instructors and students, providing easy access to Packback right from the LMS and improving the overall learning experience.

Update LTI Tool Registration
Before adding Deep Linking, please follow these tool registration steps (this is a required step for all schools as there has been a change to our registration details):
- Go to Admin > Integrations > LTI Tool Providers
-
Check your tool list for a Packback LTI 1.1 tool using the domain app.packback.co. This tool will need to be removed in order for the 1.3 tool to be used for deep linking. (If you do not find a 1.1 Packback tool, proceed to step 4)
- Before removal, you must confirm that this LTI 1.1 tool is NOT currently in use. Please make sure that it is not linked to any active courses. Removal of the LTI 1.1 tool is not reversible. If you have any questions about this, please contact lmshelp@packback.co.
- Once you have confirmed that the LTI 1.1 tool is not in use (and the LTI 1.3 is in use), click on the carrot to the right of the 1.1 tool name to open the Options menu. Then click Delete.
- Once the LTI 1.1 tool is deleted, you will need to re-register your LTI 1.3 tool to update an approved domain for the tool. Click Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool
- Enter the Client ID 188e4242-0209-4148-bd99-93e6b60a70d8 and click Submit.
- Confirm that two domains are listed and the Tool Status is set to Approved and click Submit.
Create Deep Linking Placement
- Go to Admin > Integrations > LTI Tool Providers
- Find Packback. Click the carrot and select Manage Placements
-
Click Create Placement to add a new placement for deep linking content
- Add Packback Deep Link as the Label
- Add packback-deep-link as the Handle
- Check the Deep Linking content tool option
- Under Tool Provider Information, the Target Link URI will be https://lms-api.packback.co/api/lti/launch
- Click Submit
-
Now you should see two placements - one for Deep Linking and one for basic course links. You may want to edit the original placement Label (possibly labeled Packback Content Selection) to "Packback Basic Launch”. (This placement should only have the “Course tool” option selected.)
- It is possible that you may already have two Packback placements (a course tool and a course content tool). In that case, this Deep Link would be a third placement, not replacing either of those resource links.
-
To test the Deep Linking function, go to a test course in your LMS and add a deep linked assignment from Packback following these instructions.
- You will need to connect to a Packback test community after you launch the external tool. If you don’t already have a Packback test community, you can create one by clicking “Create a New Community” at the bottom of the page. You can reference these steps if you have any questions about making a new community.
